PLACE-BASED

ARTIST RESIDENCIES

artist-led, community-driven

for COMMUNITIES:

OPEN CALL FOR COLLABORATION WITH COMMUNITIES, MUSEUMS, ARTS COUNCILS, AND ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS MISSISSIPPI.

HELP US GIVE VISUAL VOICE TO LOCAL STORIES

CAPE and the Mississippi Museum of Art have announced a series of community-engaged art projects across the state from 2018-2020. In the form of short-term artist residencies, CAPE will fund the creation of artworks that and build deeper understanding and honor personal truths about Mississippi people and places.

In the months to come, members of the CAPE team will be participating in events throughout Mississippi inviting the public to share local histories, personal stories, and aspirations that could become the focal point of a community art project. Following this initial research phase, artists will submit project proposals for collaborative artworks centered on local issues raised by communities.

We're currently inviting organizational partners in Mississippi to help us:

  • engage local communities

  • host public listening sessions to capture local stories

  • learn more about local histories, existing projects, and on-site infrastructures that could inform an artist-led collaboration

Organizations who are interested in partnership should contact:

In addition to inspiring CAPE projects, stories shared and gathered will also inform the Mississippi Museum of Art’s broader work of exploring the state and its people through art in future programs, exhibitions, and initiatives.
